WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a move to prevent a government shutdown, Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-17) voted in favor of the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024 and Other Extensions Act (H.R. 5860) today. This short-term spending extension aims to keep the government operational, ensure the payment of troops and Border Patrol, maintain national security, and allow Congress to continue working on individual full-year funding bills for Fiscal Year 2024.
Congressman Sessions expressed his support for the continuing resolution passed yesterday, which included significant cuts and policy changes aimed at securing the southern border. However, as the legislation failed to garner enough Republican votes for passage, he voted today to keep the government open and avoid the potential consequences of a costly shutdown.
Speaking on the matter, Congressman Sessions stated, "Yesterday, I was pleased to support a continuing resolution that included significant cuts and policy changes to secure the southern border. Since that legislation did not garner enough Republican votes to pass, I voted today to keep the government open and avert a costly shutdown."
As deliberations on FY24 appropriations continue, Congressman Sessions remains resolute in his commitment to reducing top-line spending, restoring the rule of law at the border, strengthening national defense, and defunding the Biden Administration's perceived harmful agenda.
